The Group Legal team plays a central role in enabling business to operate in a complex legal, regulatory and commercial environment. We are seeking a skilled and experienced Employment Lawyer to join our in-house legal team at a leading FTSE 250 financial institution. This role will involve advising on a wide range of employment law matters, both contentious and non-contentious. Legal Advisory & Risk Management: Provide expert legal advice on employment law issues including grievances, disciplinary actions, performance management, absence, discrimination and whistleblowing. Advise on restructures, redundancies and policy development. Monitor and interpret employment-related regulatory changes (e.g., SMCR, FCA/PRA requirements). Contentious Matters: Manage Employment Tribunal claims and other employment-related disputes. Liaise with external counsel where necessary and oversee litigation strategy. People and Organisation Support: Partner with P&O on investigations, settlement agreements, and employee relations matters. Draft and review employment contracts, consultancy agreements, and P&O policies. Deliver training and coaching to P&O and business stakeholders on employment law developments. Governance & Compliance: Ensure compliance with employment legislation and internal governance frameworks. Support internal investigations and contribute to broader dispute resolution efforts. Core Skills and Knowledge 5-7 years PQE. Solid track record of working on Employment and Labour matters gained from a well-respected law practice/ Bar or in-house (Financial Services) who has developed specialist knowledge and experience of employment law. Experience in working in financial service/regulated entity preferred OR having worked for a PLC. Knowledge and understanding of the Senior Managers Regime. Familiarity with regulatory frameworks such as SMCR , FCA , and PRA is highly desirable. Ability to develop strong working relationships at all levels internally and externally. Commercially minded – understand and take into account wider business considerations in order to see the ‘the big picture'. Ability to be patient and explain technical terminology in easy language. Give practical, clear and concise commercial advice. Ability to receive constructive feedback and use this to improve skills/practice/behaviours. Curious mindset and ability to work in a high paced, high-energy environment.
