Saturday
Weather
Dry and mostly sunny, with (much like most recent days) the best of that sunshine being in the afternoon. Winds will also be as gentle as most recent days, light force 3 N’ly in the morning, easing to light force 2 NW’ly in the afternoon. Temperatures rising to a max of 19-20°C in most places, but probably 20-21°C in one or two south coast locations. Skies then becoming cloudy overnight, although we should get a good few hours to enjoy the full moon first... temperatures falling to a 14-15°C minimum.
Surf and the Water
The 3-4 foot west-coast surf will be a little chopped up by the sideshore wind, but it won’t be very strong so the damage will be minimal, especially towards evening time. Swimming conditions will be nice enough all round, but best of all along the south coast, especially with the lunchtime low tide exposing so much sand. High water will be 8.8m at 7:10am and 9.1m at 7:30pm.
Sunday
Weather
Moderate force 4 SSE’ly winds will bring cloudier skies and occasional showers, the majority of them being in the late afternoon and evening, but the odd spit and spot also likely before that. The air will be mild despite the lack of sunshine, so the max temperature will be just as high as the previous day, or perhaps even a degree higher, so I’m expecting a widespread 20-21°C. Then, during the night time, the showers will clear, followed by most of the cloud, and the wind will veer N’ly, so that will actually lead to a chillier minimum of 13-14°C.
Surf and the Water
The 2-3 foot west-coast surf will be super-clean. And swimming conditions will be nice enough all round, but best on the west coast too, although it will be important to remember that the big tides can lead to strong currents. High water will be 9.2m at 7:45am and 9.5m at 8pm.
Monday
Weather
A lovely sunny day, with a light force 2 N’ly breeze in the morning, followed by a force 3 E’ly in the afternoon, and then an overnight moderate force 4 SE’ly . This will lead to a lovely feeling 20°C day (warmest in the west), followed by an increasingly cloudy and mild 17°C night.
Surf and the Water
Some fantastic looking surf (3-4 feet) but once again, the big spring tides will make the sessions very brief and the timings will have to be precise. Swimming conditions will be best on the north coast and at the southern ends of the west-coast bays. High water will be 9.4m at 8:20am and 9.6m at 8:35pm. Low water will be at 2:40pm.
The Rest of Next Week
Weather
Apart from Friday (which looks similarly lovely to its opposite bookend, aka Monday), we are going to have a rather unsettled working week, with force 5-6 SSE’ly winds on Tuesday, force 4 SSW’ly winds on Wednesday and force 3 SW’ly winds on Thursday. Each of those three days bringing the odd shower, some of which could be heavy, and there may be a longer and more substantial spell of rain on Monday night. Temperatures should be on the mild side though, facilitated by the sunny spells that punctuate the showers. Daily maxima of 21-22°C are likely, with nightly minima of 15-17°C.
Surf and the Water
The surf will be around 3 feet on Tuesday, 4-5 feet on Tuesday and Friday, but the real peak will be Thursday when it’s around 6-8 feet. All of it pretty clean and of much higher quality than we have seen for a long time. Tidal movements will be getting smaller, but only slowly, so it will remain quite tricky to time your perfect sessions… highs of 9.4m around breakfast time on Tuesday, gradually reducing through the following mornings… 9.2m, 8.8m and 8.3m respectively. Low tides will be in the afternoons.
The next forecast update will be on Monday …
