Friday
Weather
Cloudy for at least half the day, but probably sunny mid-afternoon onward. All of it dry but with a fairly brisk WSW’ly wind. Exposed areas will feel a bit chilly but be great for drying the laundry. Sheltered areas like town or Fermain in the east, or Pleinmont in the west, will feel relatively warm and comfortable. Max daytime temp 19°C. Min overnight temp 16°C.
Surf and the Water
The 4 foot surf will be a bit choppy but it will be pretty good in the grand scheme, and the windsurfing and kitesurfing conditions will be pretty good too. For swimmers, the smoothest waters will be in the east. High water will be just 7.3m at 11:10am. Low water will be at 5:25pm.
The Weekend
Weather
Probably a couple of marginally milder days, hitting 20°C more widely, due to Saturday’s force 4 SW’ly wind pulling in some cloudy and murky weather, and then Sunday’s force 3 W’ly bringing a partly wet morning followed by a sunny afternoon. So Sunday afternoon is looking like the best weekend moment, both for going and for staying at home to do the washing or the gardening.
Surf and the Water
Cleanish 3 foot surf on the west coast on Saturday, followed by slightly cleaner and certainly more powerful 4 foot surf on Sunday. Not too certain whether the onshore wind will be strong enough for windsports on Saturday, but there is a good chance of it. East coast swims will be smoothest (maybe some of the cosy corners on the north and west coasts too). Tides will be low around dawn and dusk. And the lunchtime highs will only be a tiny 6.7m on Saturday, followed by an even tinier 6.3m on Sunday.
Next Week
Weather
And it looks as though the week of the Autumnal equinox (the true start of the season) will bring ironically but, let’s face it, typically unseasonably warm, sunny and settled weather. Winds will be from the eastern quadrant, varying between NE’ly and SE’ly, and between force 2 and force 4. Typically achieving daily maxima of 22-23°C, followed by nightly minima of around 14-15°C.
Surf and the Water
Well this is long overdue, so we eager surfers will accept it without hesitation… five days of clean rideable waves, generally around 3 feet, but sometimes the wave period will be very long, meaning that the reefs could produce some significantly bigger waves. Swimming conditions will be gorgeous every day. Low tides will be at breakfast time to start the week and lunchtime to finish. High tides will be mid-afternoon to start the week and dinnertime to finish (6m increasing incrementally to 8.7m).
The next forecast update will be on Saturday or Sunday…
