Monday
Weather
Mist and hill fog will be possible until late morning, but the cloud will hopefully be just high enough to avoid this. The light force 2-3 SW’ly breeze will be warm and comfortable though, and the sunny afternoon taking the temp further into the twenties, the expected max being 23°C, but 24°C certainly isn’t out of the question. A little cooler in the evening, temps sinking to 15°C by midnight, before skies turn cloudy an perhaps misty again later.
Surf and the Water
Clean 1-3 foot surf in the west. Swimming conditions will be great on all coasts, although large tidal movements will mean that one has to be mindful of currents and cutoffs again. The times of high water will be roughly 9:20am (9.3m) and 9:30pm (9.2m). Low water will be around 3:40pm.
Tuesday
Weather
A pretty grim day compared to the warmth of Monday. For Tuesday morning we will still have the warm air with us, but it will be accompanied by thick low cloud, mist and drizzle. Then in the afternoon the force 4 WSW’ly wind will veer to a gusty and rather chilly force 5 NW’ly. There will be some decent sunshine by late afternoon but, the temperature will actually fall by a couple of degrees from the late morning 19-20°C, and then it will continue to fall overnight to a decidedly chilly 13°C min.
Surf and the Water
For surfers this is the most missable of days, but for windsurfers and kitesurfers it should be quite the opposite. Waves will increase from 1 foot at dawn to 3 feet by dusk, but get messier and messier as that time elapses. Swimmers should seek shelter in the east through the morning or the south through the afternoon. High water will be about 9m at 9:50am. Low water will be at 4:10pm.
Wednesday to Friday
Weather
And the second half of the week is looking decidedly Autumnal too, with a typically deep low pressure system over Scotland, bringing force 4-5 W’ly winds to the Channel and a few showers or longer spells of rain, only punctuated by partial sunshine that could never really be described as warm. Max temps of just 18°C in most places, the only possibility of 19°C really being in Town.
Surf and the Water
The tides are always the most predictable element, and these will be reducing incrementally from 8.5m mid-morning Tuesday, to just 7.3m late morning Friday. Surf-wise, it’s looking as though we will have waves of 3-4 feet each day. All of it messy I’m afraid, apart from one or two brief moments when the wind back SW’ly with the approach of a weather front. The prime water-based activities will probably be wind-sports in the west (maybe not on Wednesday) and swimming in the east.
The Weekend
Weather
Probably a couple of marginally milder days, hitting 20°C more widely, due to Saturday’s force 4 SW’ly wind pulling in some rather moist and murky weather, and then Sunday’s force 5 WNW’ly bringing a full day of sunshine. However, at this early stage, confidence is really low for those kinds of details.
Surf and the Water
Choppy 2-4 foot surf on the west coast. Not too certain whether the onshore wind will be strong enough for windsports, but there is a good chance of it. East coast swims will be the main water-based activity (maybe the south coast too on Sunday). Tides will be low around dawn and dusk. And the lunchtime highs will only be a tiny 6.7m on Saturday, followed by an even tinier 6.3m on Sunday.
The next forecast update will be on Wednesday or Thursday…
