Sunday
Weather
Mostly sunny, but high cloud occasionally thickening up sufficiently to cast shade, and perhaps around 4 or 5 pm to maybe even squeeze out a shower. It’s going to be very warm by then though, roughly 25-26°C, which is a good 5°C higher than on Saturday. Winds will be light force 3 SE’ly up until around 7pm, then they’re going to switch to a W’ly and, around midnight, this is going to start to blow low cloud, mist and hill fog across the Islands.
Surf and the Water
Super-clean 2 foot surf, perhaps with the odd 3 foot set around breakfast time (if we’re lucky). Gorgeous swimming conditions, especially in the north and west of the Island, and especially in the afternoon. Tidal movements will be tiny, with low water around 8:30am and then a high of only 6.8m at 2:45pm.
Monday
Weather
A misty murky morning, with hill fog and occasional drizzle on the western slopes of the Islands. The afternoon should be drier, clearer and brighter for everyone though, with max temps of about 21°C in Town and just 20°C in most other areas. Winds will be force 3-4 WSW’ly in the morning, increasing to force 4-5 WNW’ly in the afternoon. It will be noticeably cooler and less pleasant than on Sunday, so sheltering in Town or around Fermain Bay will be the way to feel most comfortable.
Surf and the Water
The surf will be choppy, but not all that bad, because the onshore wind won’t be very strong. Wave heights increasing from 3 feet at dawn to 4 feet by lunchtime. Swimming conditions will only really be good in the east, and in a few sheltered northern and southern nooks. Tidal movements will be a little bigger, with low water around 10:20am and then a high of 7.4m at 4:25pm.
Tuesday
Weather
A very wet morning, followed by a mainly sunny afternoon. All the while the wind will be blowing more or less from the west… a force 3-4 WSW’ly in the morning, escalating to a force 4 to 5 WNW’ly in the afternoon. Town and Fermain will be the most sheltered areas throughout. Daytime max temp 20°C, overnight min temp 14°C.
Surf and the Water
The surf will be choppy again, slightly more so than on Monday. Wave heights gradually decreasing from 4 feet to 3 feet. Once again, swimming conditions will only really be good in the east, and in a few sheltered northern and southern nooks. Tidal movements will be bigger again, with low water around 11:30am and then a high of 8.2m at 5:30pm.
The Rest of Next Week
Weather
With winds remaining more or less W’ly (not especially strong though), the ups and downs of cloudy/sunny/wet/dry weather will continue, and temperatures will stay around average… which after the summer we’ve just had actually feels quite cool. Daily maxima generally around 20°C and Town always feeling most comfortable.
Surf and the Water
The surf will be 2 feet for the most part, but it will probably produce the odd 3 footer at times, all of it rather choppy though. Swimming conditions will always best on the east and south coasts. Tidal movements becoming very large (highs increasing incrementally from 8.4m on Wednesday morning to 9.8m on Friday evening).
The next forecast update will be on Tuesday or Wednesday…
