Tuesday and Wednesday
Weather
Sunshine and showers, or possibly thunderstorms. On both days, the sunshine looks to be most prevalent in the morning and the showers in the afternoons and evenings. Showers are always a bit hit and miss but, unsurprisingly, with the threat of them possibly turning thundery, a thorough drenching is not out of the question. So with daily totals likely to be around 5mm, we can at least be grateful on behalf of our gardens but, with the outside chance of as much as 20mm falling in a relatively brief and intense burst, then one must be aware of the slight risk of flash-flooding. Max temps will likely be 23°C, with a light force 3 ESE’ly breeze feeling relatively warm.
Surf and the Water
The surf will be flat on Tuesday but 1-2 feet on Wednesday, nice and clean but somewhat at the mercy of the tide, now that they are growing with the approach of the full moon… Tuesday’s high will be around 7.7m at 6pm. Wednesday’s highs will be 7.8m around dawn and then 8.3m at 6:40pm. Low tides will be at lunchtime both days. Swimming conditions best in the west.
Thursday and Friday
Weather
The max temperature will only drop by a degree on Thursday (making it around 22°C) due to the SSW’ly breeze only being light force 2-3. On Friday, however, when it changes to a force 4-5 WSW’ly, we will be lucky to climb any higher than 20-21°C. Both days will have a mix of showers and sunny intervals, and it currently looks as though the night that joins these two days will see a more prolonged spell of rain, yielding as much as 10-20mm (so best not to leave any washing on the line that night).
Surf and the Water
Again, the first of these two days is looking pretty limp in terms of surf, but the second looks set to stand a little taller… 2-3 feet and reasonably clean. Swimming conditions will be best in the east and north. Tides will be high at breakfast time and in the evenings, increasing from 8.3m on Thursday morning to 9m on Friday evening. Low tides around lunchtime.
Bank Holiday Weekend
Weather
Hmmm, not the dream BH weekend, but let’s face it, it’s not untypical to hear that it’s going to be blessed by a fresh force 5 SW’ly wind, and fairly frequent showers. So in the usual way, to make the most of the dry time (which will be much more plentiful than the wet time), simply seek some decent shelter… Pleinmont if you’re out west, Pembroke if you’re up north, Town and Fermain if you’re down south. Max temps only 19-20°C each day.
Surf and the Water
The surf will remain 2-3 feet and reasonably clean. And swimming conditions will remain best in the east and north. Tides will be high at breakfast time and soon after dusk, increasing from 8.9m on Saturday morning to 9.3m on Sunday evening (and pretty similar at 9.2m on Monday evening). Low tides in the early to mid afternoons..
The next forecast update will be on Thursday…
