Wednesday
Weather
Simply smouldering… the max temp being about 6 degrees higher than on Tuesday… meaning we will reach 32-33°C at roughly 3 or 4pm. That heat will be focussed in the southwest of the Island. Head to the north or east coasts if you prefer your temperatures to stay in the twenties. The entire day will be cloudless, so the solar eclipse should be pretty incredible. There will be a big high tide right then though, so bear in mind that there won’t be any sand available on the west coast, so best to leave your cars at home, because even the standing space will no doubt be packed. Take care of your eyes, I’m sure you’ve heard all the warnings. Enjoy:)
Surf and the Water
Apologies if the surf forecasts have been too optimistic of late. It seems the wave models have been constantly shifting the goalposts, always dangling the 2-foot swell carrot about 2-3 days in advance. Certainly it seems as though we can expect some rideable 1-footers on this day, but it’s only likely to be good for kids and SUPs, mainly on the rising tide. High water will be about 8.8m at 7:07am and 9.3m at 7:20pm. Low water will be around 1:30pm.
Thursday
Weather
After a hot and sweaty night (temperatures staying above 20°C in most parishes), we will cook up some of our own heat through the morning, whilst skies are sunny and the WNW’ly breeze is just light force 2-3. This wind isn’t strong enough to chase the existing heat away, and it also isn’t brining in any new heat from France, so it’s likely that we will peak around 27-28°C in the mid-afternoon, before the breeze increasing a little and leads to a gradual cooling in the evening. The min temp around 17-18°C on this occasion, perhaps with some low cloud and mist patches wafting in from the sea.
Surf and the Water
Again, the wave models are suggesting the possibility of a 2-foot day, and the Atlantic weather chart certainly makes it look believable, so I’m going to stay optimistic. Again the pushing tide will be best, although there will unfortunately be an onshore wind to ruffle it up somewhat. High water will be 9.3m around 8am and 9.7m around 8pm. Low water will be around 2:15pm.
Friday and The Weekend
Weather
A cooler breeze… light force 3 NW’ly on Friday, then N’ly on Saturday and Sunday. This will bring lots of sunshine, but it will also bring quite a few cloudier spells, which will be quite a novelty after the week we’ve just had. A shower or two is not out of the question, but if they do happen then they will probably be very brief and light, far from giving the Islands the drinks that they need. Max temps likely 23-24°C each day. Town possibly being a degree warmer on Friday.
Surf and the Water
We shall probably maintain 2 feet of sloppy surf, but it will only be briefly good on the rising tides. High tides will be around breakfast time and soon after dusk (the biggest being 9.9m on Friday and the smallest being 9.4m on Sunday).
Next Week
Weather
Force 3-4 WNW’ly winds for the most part, but there’s a chance that it could drop off to light force 2 for a few more pleasant and comfortable periods. Temperatures will be close to the seasonal average every day, with maxima in the low twenties and minim in the mid-teens. Through most of the week, a few weak weather fronts will punctuate the sunshine with cloudy spells and a few light showers. However, and this could be great news for farmers and gardeners, there is a high chance of some more prolonged and appreciable rain on Monday (possibly as much as 10mm… watch this space).
Surf and the Water
The surf will vary between 1 and 3 feet, usually quite choppy, but cleaner at times due to the onshore wind falling light. Tides will be high in the late mornings Monday to Wednesday, then at lunchtime on Thursday and Friday (reducing from 9m on Monday to 6.7m on Friday). Lows will generally be around dinnertime.
The next forecast update will be on Friday or Saturday…
