Sunday
Weather
Not quite as warm as Saturday was, but just as sunny. The max will be around 23°C in most areas, but 24-25°C in Town. The reason for the drop of a few degrees from Saturday, is the change of wind… having just had a continental E’ly, and then switching to a maritime W’ly. The flow will be very gentle in the morning, only force 2 to 3, so that’s when we will acquire most of our heat. The afternoon will step up to moderate force 4 though, so that’s when it will really feel noticeably warmer in the shelter of Town (and at such beaches as Fermain) than it is everywhere else.
Surf and the Water
Maybe some 1 foot dribbly surf on the rising tide, but really it’s just another day for a swim… the east coast being best of all, closely followed by the south coast. High water will be about 7.4m at 4:20pm. Low tide shortly after dusk.
Monday
Weather
The wind will switch to a NNW’ly direction, which generally brings cooler air, but it will also relax to light force 2 for the whole day, which means that the bountiful sunshine will generate enough home-grown heat for us to reach a similar max temp to Sunday, so probably a widespread 24°C. That’s really about as simple a forecast as it gets.
Surf and the Water
Cleaner 1 foot surf, probably rideable on big boards at dawn/breakfast time. Swimming conditions will be equally gorgeous on all coasts. High water will be around 5:10am and 5:30pm (7.6m an 8m respectively). Low tide will be around 11:30am.
Tuesday and Wednesday
Weather
These are the scorchio days, because we are going to hang on to the near flawless sunshine, but see a change of wind to a continental E’ly. Tuesday’s will be force 3-4 and have a little more influence from the Channel than on Wednesday. Wednesday’s will force 2-3 and be heavily laden with hot French air. Max temps will be 27-28°C on Tuesday and 29-30°C on Wednesday. The warmest area always being the southwest of the Island. The north and east coasts offering a little refreshment for those who aren’t keen on the heat. Overnight minima will be a rather stifling 20°C on Tuesday night and 21°C on Wednesday night (drink plenty of water).
Surf and the Water
More 1 foot surf on Tuesday and then maybe some 2-3 foot surf on Wednesday. The west coast will also be the loveliest area for swimming. Tides will be high around dawn and dinnertime (increasing incrementally from 8.2m on Tuesday morning to 9.3m on Wednesday evening).
Thursday and Friday
Weather
A gradual temperature tumble, but still absolutely lovely and so much better than so many unsettled Augusts of recent memory. Thursday will barely have a breath of wind, until a light force 2-3 N’ly gathers in the late afternoon and evening. Friday will then maintain the N’ly direction but increase to moderate force 4, not only returning our recently borrowed heat to France, but also feeling cool due to the wind-chill. In terms of numbers, the Thursday max will be about 27-28°C and then Friday’s max will be about 23-24°C. Overnight minima about 18°C and 16°C respectively.
Surf and the Water
More 2-3 foot surf on the west coast (hopefully). All coasts will be lovely for swimming on Thursday, and then the south coast will also be the loveliest on Friday. Tides will be high around breakfast time and dusk (increasing incrementally from 9.3m on Thursday morning to 9.9m on Friday evening).
The next forecast update will be on Tuesday or Wednesday…
