Monday
Weather
This is the warmest day of the week, so be sure to pounce upon it. Straight-forward sunshine, with a max temp 26-27°C in the mid-afternoon. Things will cool off a little after that, because the variable force 2 wind will turn into a light force 3 WNW’ly. This means that all coasts will be great for the majority of the day, but (apart from the lesser view of the sunset) the east coast will be most pleasant in the late afternoon and evening. Min temp overnight 17°C under increasingly… clear skies for the meteor-spotters at first, cloudier skies later.
Surf and the Water
Clean 1 foot surf. Obviously tiny but good enough for kids and SUP riders who want to make the most of the warm water and sunshine. Swimming will be lovely on all coasts for most of the day, but notable better on the east coast as we move towards evening. Tides will be 8.5m high at 10:15am and then low at 4:30pm.
Tuesday and Wednesday
Weather
The first two days of the week that will present the chance of a shower or two. The greatest chance being on Tuesday morning and evening, but the possibility being just about any time. That said, the showers will be sparsely scattered, so there’s plenty of scope for them missing us altogether. Skies will be sunny at times, but with a bit more cloud and wind than on Monday, the temperature will be on a downward trajectory. Tuesday’s wind will be a force 3 SSW’ly, leading to a top temp of 23°C in most parts, but 24-25°C in Town. Wednesday’s wind will be a moderate force 4 W’ly, leading to a top temp of 21°C in most parts, but 22-23°C in Town.
Surf and the Water
More clean 1 foot surf on Tuesday, then some 3 foot surf on Wednesday... much choppier but also much more rideable. Swimming will be good on all coasts on Tuesday, but notable better on the east coast on Wednesday. Tides will be high in the late mornings (8.3m Tuesday and 8m Wednesday. Lows will be towards dinnertime.
Thursday and Friday
Weather
Two more days with the possibility of a shower or two, but I think the likelihood is less than on the previous days. If we do catch a quick splash then it would probably be in the mornings, with both afternoons are looking set to become super-sunny. The air will be inherently cool, coming down on a N’ly breeze, but that breeze will be incredibly light, so the afternoons will feel lovely, even though at 20-21°C, they are only marginally warmer than the sea around us.
Surf and the Water
2 foot surf on Thursday but virtually flat on Friday. Swimming, kayaking and paddle-boarding conditions will be better on Friday though. Tides will be high at lunchtime (7.6m Thursday and 7.3m Friday). Lows will be around breakfast time and dinnertime.
The Weekend
Weather
Temperatures should recover by a degree or two, as the breeze veers to a very light NE’ly. Skies mostly sunny but I say that with a little uncertainty, because there could be some low cloud or mist patches wafting in from the mid-Channel. The most likely max temps will be 23-24°C, which as we know from recent such days, is for most Islanders, about as comfortable and lovely as we could wish for in early August.
Surf and the Water
It’s not certain but it’s looking like 1 foot surf on Saturday, followed by 2 foot surf on Sunday. Swimming, kayaking and paddle-boarding conditions look gorgeous on all coasts both days. Low tides will be in the early to mid mornings. Highs will be in the mid-afternoons (7.1m Saturday and 7.4m Sunday).
The next forecast update will be on Wednesday morning
